Videos - Why Stay UMC

Dan and Sue Hinderliter Video:

  • a lay delegate to annual conference we raised our family at Bethany
  • one of our kids is transgender non-binary, was baptized at Bethany & attended its free school Sunday school
  • they no longer feel comfortable coming to the Bethany campus they don't know how people there feel about them
  • we're excited that in the future LGBTQ folks who are called to Ministry may be free to pursue it and that the UMC churches who are open to having LGBTQ pastors
  • we also hope that someday UMC pastors and churches that want to perform gay weddings will be able to do so
  • this will help heal some of the hurt the church has caused and help bring in people
  • we don't believe that a couple of verses in the Old Testament and the couple in the letters of the New Testament overrule everything that Jesus taught about love Grace tolerance and acceptance
  • being LGBTQ does not go against the 2 greatest commandments
  • Susan and I intend to stay in the UMC, and we really hope that that Bethany will too
  • Bethany is our home and it cannot be if Bethany disaffiliates from the UMC please vote to stay thank you

Why:
  1. The UMC does not require any action that goes against my conscience, nor the Gospel of my Lord.   I have faith that the Spirit will guide us going forward.
  2. I believe in a single United Methodist connectional network;
    1. Bethany, Rio Texas and the UMC are ALL my family and
    2. I can not leave my family on an independent whim.
  3. I stand committed to bringing a broad inclusive church to my NW Austin community.
    1. I stand with LGBTQ; I invite, welcome and affirm each person as a member of God’s family.
    2. I stand with traditionalist and affirm their traditional views and our Wesleyan principles.
    3. I reject all the noise about the watering down of Wesleyan principles/spirit of United Methodist.

Bethany is a home for ALL!
